How to keep your skin hydrated on airplane

How to hydrate your skin on the airplane? Airplanes dry out your skin very quickly. You can board the airplane looking fresh and leave the plane looking dull, wrinkled and dry. It doesn’t have to be that way! We put together 6 tips  on how to keep your skin hydrated on the airplane.

Why does the skin dehydrate on flights?

The air on flights is pressurized recycled dry air. The plane air has about 20% humidity (your skin is happy with humidity between 40% and 70%). Dry air will suck the moisture out of your skin.

Our favorite tips to keep your skin hydrated on your next flight

1. The night before your flight: face mask

The night before your flight give your skin some TLC with a moisturizing mask. Use your favorite moisturizing mask or make one yourself by combining coconut oil with 1 mashed avocado. Let it sit for 15 minutes before you rinse it off with cool water. Another one of our favorite DIY masks: mash 1 avocado and mix in vitamin E oil plus mashed banana. Apply on your face and leave it for 20 minutes.

2. Use your best moisturizer

Here at Sambrosa we like to keep it as natural as possible so we prefer natural moisturizers without the harmful harsh chemicals. Use a product with natural antioxidants or mix in natural oils such as avocado oil and vitamin A, E, D and K. A good budget option is Andalou lotion (click here to buy on Amazon) or the Aveeno products.  A good higher end cream we like is the Kate Somerville moisturizer (click here to buy)

3. No filter

If you dare, skip your foundation on the day you are traveling. Instead bring it in your carry-on (be mindful of the size) so you can apply some once you arrive at your destination. A foundation free skin will be easier to moisturize during your flight.  So do bring your moisturizer on the plane too, preferably a heavy cream.

4. Do NOT use your mist

It seems logical to spray plenty of mist during your flight but actually this will dry out your skin more. Since the air in the plane is dry it will suck the water off your skin leaving your skin dryer than before.

5. Eat and drink well

Drink plenty of water and skip the coffee and alcohol during your flight. Coffee and alcohol dehydrate and we don’t need that during a flight. Make sure to drink water throughout the whole flight. And it is also important to skip the greasy food as much as possible and instead eat your fruits and vegetables!

6. Sleep!

If you can… So bring your earplugs, your eye mask and our Sambrosa 3 night travel pack. There is no better remedy for your skin than a good night’s rest to rejuvenate and recover. Just make sure its a long enough flight when you use the 3 night pack. You can buy  our 3 night pack for $3.99 (to buy click here)
