Why do we use aniseed oil and what are the health benefits? We often get asked why we use aniseed as it has a very distinctive taste (reminding many of licorice), but there are many good reasons why Sambrosa contains this herb.
Aniseed oil as a flavoring agent
Anise has been used as a flavoring agent for a very long time. It’s use has been traced back to ancient cultures such as Egypt, Greece and Rome. It was first cultivated in Egypt and the Middle East, but was brought to Europe for its medicinal value. In India anise is used as a mouth freshener and digestive agent for a long time. In some Indian restaurants you can try the anise mix after your dinner. Anise is used in licorice and in Asian cuisines. But also the medicinal properties of this herb were known long ago in for instance Egypt, Greece and Rome and are still recognized today.
Aniseed oil health benefits
Aniseed oil has many properties such as antiseptic, digestive and sedative. Aniseed oil has relaxing and tranquilizing effects, but it also works as an expectorant; it loosens mucus or phlegm deposited in the lungs and respiratory tracts. This helps to relieve coughs, heaviness in the chest, breathing troubles, asthma, bronchitis, congestion and other respiratory disorders.
You can find many home remedies with anise on the internet, but use with caution in pregnancy and don’t use in high amounts.
Aniseed oil in Sambrosa
Aniseed oil has a very distinctive taste and anyone who was tried Sambrosa will confirm this. We use pure organic aniseed oil to flavor the product naturally, so we don’t have to use artificial flavoring. If you compare Sambrosa to many competitors you will notice the difference: no high fructose corn syrup, no D&C Yellow No. 10, FD&C Green No. 3 or FD&C Yellow No. 6. You will actually be able to recognize the ingredients we use!
